A Spectacular 1 Day Tour of the World’s Renowned Cheow Larn Lake

Situated in the heart of the Khao Sok National Park is Cheow Larn Lake. It was built in the 1980’s, the hydroelectric dam was built to provide electricity for Surat Thani and other parts of southern Thailand and to help with flood control, irrigation and fishing. With the lake around 30 kilometers long and the basin area covering 165 square kilometers, it took almost a year to flood the valley and the rain forest which occupied the land here. Some villagers had to be resettled and in addition to receiving financial compensation and land, alternative farming programs were setup to enable them to maintain their livelihoods. Ratchaprapa Dam was formally opened by the King of Thailand in 1987.

During the trip your will enjoy cruising by the traditional long tail boat. Then spend the rest of the day hiking through the virgin jungle,exploring a cave,swimming,kayaking or just relaxing by amidst the stunning limestone cliff scenery.

Itinerary

Depart after breakfast (8:30am-17.30 pm) for Cheow Larn by mini bus stopping en-route at a local market for you stock up on snacks, cigarettes, maybe some of the delicious Thai fruits, etc.The journey to the pier is approximately 1 hour.

You will then be transferred to one of our comfortable long tail boats(life jacket provided) which will take you to the center of the lake. On your way you will get lots of chances to take photos or video of the amazing limestone formations over 100 island. You may be lucky enough to spot monkeys or even the Great Hornbill, which are often seen along this journey about 1 Hr.

First stop we will be most popular photo spot”Guilin of Thailand”,Our local guide tell you the history of the lake and show you the beautiful spot for taking photo.

Then we will continue on boat trip to visit “Phakaypetch cave”(Diamond cave) Boat will stop in front of the cave,Then we will walking on staircase to the cave entrance and our guide will show your around the cave.  Diamond cave filled with stalactites and stalagmites,truly an amazing sight.

Please do not touch or break these formations, as takes centuries to formed.

Back to the boat and continue to the “flotting house” Where we will have lunch and spend the afternoon activity. Arrive at the Island and enjoy delicious Thai food and fresh seasonal fruit, coffee and tea.

In the afternoon, Our local guide will take your to trekking and exploring the island.The trekking takes around 2 Hr. and trail is suitable for all levels.This Island is a land of varied flora and tropical plants,For those who don’t want to trekking,You can relaxing with Sun bathing on the floating pier,swimming  ,Kayaking or tubing in the lake

After trekking, it time to refreshing before boarding on the long tail boat to the pier and take a minivan back to your resort at khao sok.
